L'escorxador exterior

Menu Del Dia At L’escorxador

HeyDaveHere, October 17, 2024October 17, 2024

We were told about the l’escorxador restaurant by friends the other week who explained it’s a cheap and cheerful place to try, but it’s on an industrial estate.
Now, we’ll let you into a little secret here, many of the great eateries are off the beaten track, out of the tourist and ex pat areas, so the fact it’s on a road side or in an industrial estate should not put anyone off eating there.

It could be said the outlook or view isn’t always the greatest, but then again yesterday we went for tapas in Quesada and the view was a pot holed carpark and a concrete wall…. I rest my case.

What We Had At L’escorxador

We both had the menu del dia.

Drinks

I had a beer with my meal, it was a bottle of El Águila Beer, while Soph had a Coke Zero. I finished off my wonderful lunch with a Bombon coffee.

Food

Salad To Share.

Fresh salad, came with olive oil and balsamic, the vegetables were all fresh, crisp and all good.

Starters.

I went for the lentil estafago (or lentil soup in English ), which was a good sized portion, meat and chorizo in there and it had nice flavours. This was very much home cooked.

Soph had the huevos revueltos, which was with mushrooms and came with small pieces of toast. Again a good sized portion, tasty and nicely presented.

Mains.

Chicken in the oven for Soph, which came with wonderfully seasoned hand cut potatoes, which were drizzled in the juice of the chicken stock.
I had the bacalao con tomate and this was delightful. Three big pieces of cod steak smothered in a rich tomato sauce. Downside here is I was in such a rush to get Soph to taste mine, we forgot to get a photo of this plate.

Dessert.

We both went for the apple tart and this was enjoyable too, there was plenty of sliced apple on the tart which had custard layer underneath the apple.

What We Liked

Service was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Everything is in Spanish, but the server had it written on her notepad too. They have their daily menu outside each day, so you can see what the choices are and prepare yourself for when ordering.

There’s ample seating outside as well as indoors. The place was spotlessly clean too. For just 10€ for a menu del dia, it’s well worth a visit.

What Could Be Improved

If only they had a Facebook page or something where they could publish their menu, but the fact they are open from 7am till late and were busy, indicates that maybe they don’t need to do so.

How Much Did It Cost

For a very tasty and filling 4 course lunch, it came to 21.40€ for us both.

Receipt for l'escorxador

The menu del dia is exceptional value for 10.00€ per person. The coffee bombon I had at the end was just 1.40€ extra.

Would We Return To L’escorxador

Yes is the simple answer, if we are passing by or in the general area. The value here is second to none, the food is good and the service fast and friendly. We were the only non Spanish in there, but didn’t feel out of place at all. Another thing I liked was a lof of the others eating were regulars it seemed, or drivers calling in for their lunch, but all said goodbye out loud to everyone as they left.
A Super friendly environment.

How To Find l’escorxador

The easiest way to describe this is to come from Catral. Take the CV-904 which runs alongside the AP7, towards El Realengo. Go past El Realengo, at the roundabout where the bar Rocio is, and continue straight ahead, crossing the AP7 and heading towards Crevillente. There’s the industrial estate on your right, with the roundabout where you come off at the first exit, then at the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Carrer Santa Pola. This is a weird and wonderful narrow, but thankfully one way street. Follow this round and then take a right turn onto Carrer Catral. You’ll see the sign on the left.

If you reach the Repsol garage at the stop sign with the T junction with Crevillente to the right and Albatera going left, you’ve gone too far.

There is the Google Maps option here too, but this place doesn’t have Facebook or a website to go to.
