El Bar El Raso

Lunch For 2 at El Bar El Raso: Super Tasty and Filling!

HeyDaveHere, October 17, 2023October 16, 2023

Talking to friends on Thursday at our coffee get-together, someone asked if we had visited El Bar El Raso for either drinks or food. When we replied we hadn’t done so as yet, we were urged to give them a visit and to try their Club Sandwich. So, this is just what we decided to do on Friday the thirteenth, hoping that wouldn’t jinx our visit!

When we went to the Med Bar the other day, we noticed El Bar was pretty busy, with most of the outdoor tables outdoors being taken.

So we called in and decided to have lunch. Although they don’t offer a menu del dia as such, they do offer a lunch menu.

What We Had At El Bar El Raso

Soph had a pint of vodka. Almost fooled you; she had her staple of a Coke. I’d asked what was available on draught and went for a pint of Estrella. We’d checked the menu while waiting for the drinks to be brought. I was tempted by the lunch menu, which offers a choice of one, two, or three courses at a pretty decent price. But, I was drawn to the Club Sandwich that had come so highly recommended. Soph, who had also been considering the lunch menu option, decided instead to have a steak sandwich. The couple on a table near to us had the omelettes, and they looked amazing, making me wonder if I’d made the wrong choice.

I’m not quite sure where to start with my Club except to say it was huge. There was a huge amount of chicken, way more than you get in many places, and it was very tasty; the ingredients were all fresh, and I enjoyed every bite of it.

The steak sandwich also got great feedback from Soph. The meat was seasoned and had a great flavour, and this, too, was a very generous portion size. The only thing we noticed as a minor and pretty inconsequential point was that the dishes were meant to come with skin-on fries, whereas ours looked to have lost theirs, but this was not an issue as they were still hot and freshly cooked.

Dessert was easy; Soph went for the apple crumble, whereas I was ready for a nap to sleep off my lunch.

What We Liked at El Bar El Raso

The location was easy to find, and the Club Sandwich was excellent; thanks for the recommendation Viv!

What Could Have Been Improved at El Bar El Raso

Service was a bit hit-and-miss. After arriving and grabbing our table, there was a staff member chatting to customers about 8 feet away from us. We sat and waited, and another staff member came and took our drinks order and brought us menus. She was then back to take our food orders and bring the drinks while the other staff member was still chatting with her friends. Just that initial acknowledgment would have been nice, even to say, “Someone will be with you in a minute. “

After we had finished the dessert and emptied our drinks, nobody came out to check back or ask if we wanted the bill, meaning Soph had to venture in to ask to pay. Both staff were sat at the bar chatting to each other.

How Much Did It Cost?

The food and drink for our lunch came to €28,55. The Club Sandwich I had was good value for money. Yes, you could say, “Dave, you paid a tenner for a butty,” but there are sandwiches, and then there are sandwiches, and this one was full of flavour and very filling. Hey, we paid €15 the other month for a burger that was neither tasty nor filling in Dolores.

The beer was €2,80 and Soph’s Coke, which was a large bottle, was €2.50

Would We Return To El Bar El Raso?

Yes, there would be no reason, based on our experience today, that we would not return, and it would probably be to eat again if and when we were passing.

How To Find El Bar El Raso

Driving from Ciudad Quesada as though going to Guardamar on the Av. de Málaga/CV-895 and at the roundabout, turn onto the urbanisation and loop back at the first roundabout you come to, and the bar is the first on your right as you are coming back around. Plenty of parking nearby.

Check out the El Bar El Raso Facebook page for information about opening times and much more.
