I’m asked on a regular basis where is the Best Tapas In Benijofar and my answer is always the same; Bar Sonia. Now, I’m always willing to listen to and visit other places on peoples recommendation, but to be blunt, I’ve yet to find any bar in Benijofar anywhere near as good as Bar Sonia for tapas.
Yes we have our ‘go to places’ for tapas in Rojales and also La Marina and this is our place to go in Benijofar.
What We Had At Bar Sonia
Drinks
Soph started off with a cup of tea, then went onto an Aquarius naranja ( bottle not can ), while I made do with a tanque of draught beer.
Tapas
We were unsure as to what we wanted to try, at first. So after much deliberation, we went for Albondigas, 2 of the ham croquettes, we also chose 3 of the Montaditos, a Benijofar for Soph, a Sobrasada with Manchego cheese for me and I also wanted a Brascada, which is filling of grilled veal, grilled serrano ham, fried onion and tartar sauce.
The Montaditos came out together after we had finished the meatballs and croquettes.
The bread rolls were lovely and warm, fresh and very moreish.
Dessert
When Soph mentioned desserts, I used my cunning to talk her into the baked cheesecake. I refused a pudding, but instead, I ordered another Brascada Montadito instead. Yes, you read this correctly, I turned down a dessert and had another savoury option.
As soon as I saw the size of the portion of the cheese cake, I knew straight away I would be called upon to help Soph, finish this off. True enough this is exactly what happened. She started eating the cake, which had arrived with 2 spoons! I in the mean time, polished off my second Brascada and then did the noble thing of helping my other half with her pudding.
What We Liked At Bar Sonia
Despite us getting there early for a lunchtime, it was still busy. There were several tables reserved inside, but we were quickly seated and served. With our drinks, we were served olives, a nice touch.
The staff were super efficient as ever. The drinks were quickly served, the food was brought out in stages and there was nothing at all negative to say about the food nor service.
What Could Be Improved
Boring as it sounds for several bars and restaurants we visit, but here once again there were zero issue, so nothing we’d say could be improved.
