The other Saturday, we’d been out enjoying a relaxed coffee together in “the Square,” just chatting and taking our time, when Soph mentioned she didn’t really have anything planned for lunch, so the idea of grabbing a bite while we were already in town felt like the perfect, easygoing plan.
It was one of those in-between times of day—not quite breakfast anymore, but not fully lunchtime either—yet as we happened to walk past Belmontes Catral Bar & Cafe, the unmistakable smell of sizzling bacon drifting out into the street instantly made the decision for us. Within moments, we found ourselves settling down at a table.
What Did We Have
As we looked over the menu, it was explained to us that we’d arrived right during that transition period where breakfast service was just coming to an end and they were about to start preparing for lunch. Still, they kindly let us know that if we were both set on breakfast, they’d be more than happy to sort us out with a cooked option.
That was all the encouragement we needed, and we didn’t hesitate for long. In the end, Soph went for a simple but satisfying egg and sausage baguette, while I decided to fully lean into it and ordered the large breakfast—figuring if you’re going to do it, you might as well do it properly.

What We Liked
It turned out to be really good value for money, especially considering the generous portions. The breakfast itself was nicely presented, with everything looking fresh and appetising, which always makes the experience feel that little bit more enjoyable. On top of that, the service was prompt and efficient, so we weren’t left waiting around at all—everything arrived quickly, letting us just sit back, relax, and enjoy our meal.
What Could Be Improved
There wasn’t anything that needed improving; it did just what it said on the tin.
How Much Did It Cost
The large breakfast was 7,50€ and the egg and sausage baguette was 6€. Both were really filling and good value for money.
Would We Return To Belmontes Catral
Although we don’t usually make a habit of visiting the typical “Brit”-style bars like Belmontes or the Dog and Firkin, but this was one place that definitely left a good impression on us. There was something about the relaxed atmosphere, combined with the quality of the food and service, that made it stand out from what we might normally expect. It felt comfortable and welcoming without trying too hard, which made the whole experience more enjoyable.
We both agreed that we’d happily go back again, especially after having a proper look at the rest of the menu, which actually looked quite varied and tempting. On top of that, a friend of ours has already mentioned that they serve a really good steak pie there, which immediately caught our attention. So, that’s definitely something we’d be keen to try next time—it sounds like the perfect excuse for a return visit
