The Great Electricity Divide Britain vs. Spain

The Great Electricity Divide Britain vs. Spain

HeyDaveHere, November 29, 2025December 24, 2025

Back in the UK, your mate Darren is sitting in his semi-detached in Sheffield wearing three jumpers, a bobble hat, and fingerless gloves like he’s starring in a Victorian Christmas special. He’s got the heating on “low” because the electric bill has just arrived and it looks like a ransom note. He mutters things like “daylight robbery” while boiling the kettle only halfway.

Meanwhile, down in Spain, you’re standing on your terrace in shorts, sunglasses on, sipping a cold beer at 11am for absolutely no reason at all. Your solar panels are crunching away in the sun like energetic little elves, and your monthly electric bill strolls into your inbox at a smug, gentle 10,00€. You glance at it and laugh — partly because it’s cheap, and partly because the email subject line still can’t spell your name correctly.

You send Darren a photo of your blue sky, a palm tree, and your 10€ bill. He replies with a photo of his smart meter climbing like it’s trying to reach Everest. You feel slightly guilty… for about two seconds. Then the sun hits your back and you decide a quick dip in the pool will help you process the emotional weight of your extremely affordable Spanish lifestyle.

When you’re buying a house out here, make sure you can get solar panels installed!

Supportive murmurs. Someone says, “Good for you.”Nobody actually believes it. Because Dry January in Spain is… ambitious. Take Bob. Bob starts strong. He’s…

Village Roundabouts Of Spain

November 28, 2025December 24, 2025

Spanish councils pour love, money, irrigation systems, mood lighting, and a small rainforest into every roundabout… meanwhile the potholes are so deep you could lose a small dog in them. Every drive becomes a slalom course worthy of the Winter Olympics, but by god — that roundabout looks fabulous. Spain…

Delivery Attempted. No One Home!

November 26, 2025December 24, 2025

There’s a special kind of rage that only expats in Spain truly understand — the moment you check your tracking app, after sitting at home all day like a prisoner awaiting parole, only to see the dreaded words: “Delivery attempted. No one home.” Oh really? Really? That’s fascinating, because not…
