Today we ventured out and called for tapas and a beer at Restaurante Los Molinos Matola, after it had been suggested we might like to try it out.
With no airs and graces, this is a proper Spanish bar. By this I mean proper Spanish, ie not a Spanish bar over run by non Spanish. We were the only non Spanish in there and nobody batted any eyelid.
This is the type of bar we used to love when we lived in Cuevas, 98% in the bars there were Spaniards, Soph and I made up the other 2%.
What We Had
Our intention today was just to try tapas at a couple of bars, so we did just that.
Drinks
I asked for a tanque, Soph went for a Coke Zero. They serve CruzaCampo at Restaurante Los Molinos, for the record. Not a beer I would normally choose, but it was cold and wet and cheap!

Tapas
I ordered a tapa each of Tenera and also Magra. These came with a bread basket.

This was very, very tender, lean and very enjoyable. It could have been a little bit warmer, if I was going to be picky.

The Magra was very tasty, nicely seasoned and the sauce was tasty too.

The bread was soft, fresh and great for mopping the plates! Oh and it is included in the price!
What We Liked
Friendly service but the bill was totally unexpected.
They advertise themselves as “this is a restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine, with a wide variety of grilled meats and sausages. You can enjoy their delicious homemade menus and typical dishes of the area, surrounded by a friendly and familiar atmosphere.”
This is a great traditional Spanish establishment.
What Could Be Improved
No receipt issued! That was the only thing, as I prefer to ask for the bill, get the print out so I can pay accordingly.

What Did It Cost
The entire bill for a pint tanque of beer, a can of Coke Zero, tapas of Magra and Tenera came to 7€.
Yes, you read this right, 7€. I handed over a 20€ note and got 13€ back. Crazy, I know.
I then in my poor Spanish said to the guy “Señor, me tomé un tanque, una coca-cola y dos tapas” and held out my change.
He looked at it and replied ” Si ” then left me standing there looking stunned.
Here I am guessing as to the breakdown. POSSIBLY it could be:
Tanque 2.50€
Coke Zero 1.50€
Tapas at 1.50€ each
So even by my O level maths, this adds up to to 7€.
Would We Return To Restaurante Los Molinos Matola
Are Liverpool FC the Premiership title winners? This is 100% a resounding yes, next time either for more tapas or the menu del dia.
They do a menu del dia for 12€, the chalkboard was outside as we arrived. We were tempted by this, but we stuck to our plan of tapas only. This was despite them having the Berenjena with honey as a starter, which I do like.

There is the meat in the chilled displays to order to be cooked on the brasa, and it did smell lovely.
