Mercadona is Spain’s leading supermarket chain and a favourite among locals and expats alike. Their fresh food counters, particularly for meat and fish, are well-regarded, and their own-brand range, Hacendado, is excellent.
This is number one of our Spanish supermarkets near me list, because we use them for home deliveries. Unlike UK supermarkets that pick and pack in the store, these guys do it from their warehouse. We have NEVER, had anything missing, out of stock or swapped out!

Carrefour is a French hypermarket that offers a massive selection, from groceries to electronics and clothing. Their international food section is one of the best, making it a go-to for expats and they’re second on our Spanish supermarkets near me list.
The Torrevieja and also Elche stores are a 20 minutes drive to either.
3. Lidl
✅ Pros: Fantastic value, great quality fruit and veg, good bakery section.
❌ Cons: Limited branded products, not as extensive as larger supermarkets.
🛒 Best for: Bargains, fresh produce.

Lidl is perfect for picking up essentials at low prices. Their weekly ‘middle aisle’ specials are also worth checking out for household and DIY bargains.
Our closest large stores are in Ciudad Quesada, which is fine out of season, but a nightmare when the tourists are across. The Almoradi one is better.

With Alicante and La Zenia the 2 nearest stores, they are open till 10pm most nights, if you fancy a trip out there.
