It’s been on our list of places to try for quite a while and eventually we got around to visiting The Chippy La Marina for lunch. I have been told we should try here for a while, I also know when we visited Our Plaice that I had a couple of people telling me which of the chip shops on the La Marina Urb they preferred and The Chippy La Marina got as many votes as Our Plaice.
Anyway, we finally got to visit here and we had lunch. There were already 3 tables outside and one inside dining as we arrived, which is usually a good sign. These are cooked to order too, so they are nice and fresh!
What We Had
Obviously, it was going to be fish and chips, but which ones?
Drinks
As it was 30c Soph had a cold Coke Zero, and I, being a bit of a traditionalist, had a cup of tea.
Food
Soph kept things simple and had the menu of the day, so she went with cod, the garden peas as the side and this came with bread and butter and chips. She liked her lunch, the cod was a generous portion and was a good steak like piece of fish.
I however, decided today was the go big or go home day and ordered the Large haddock with chips and I also added a side of curry sauce with this.
Well to say my fish was large is a bit of an understatement. It was huge, it was like a whale had landed on my plate. If you’ve ever visited one of the Wetherby Whaler fish restaurants in Yorkshire and ordered their Whaler Haddock, you’ll understand what I am talking about.
The fish was lovely, the batter was nice and crispy, not at all soggy, but not too crispy, if that makes sense. The chips were decent enough and I thought the curry sauce just added to the flavour.

What We Liked
The food was very enjoyable, the portions are good sized, and the establishment was clean and tidy.
They also do desserts of the day at just 3.50, the cheesecake today was peanut butter flavour, which I like and had I not been so full I felt like rolling out of the door, I would have tried.
What Could Be Improved
A couple of slight niggles, the toilets are clean and tidy, so that is fine, but there needs to be a sign on the door of each. The gents is on the right, I only know this after opening the door and seeing a urinal in there. The door facing at the end of the short corridor was partially open, but as it’s a sliding door also, I could not see any sign on there.
We didn’t get a receipt as such, just the hand written order form with the amount on the reverse but no big deal.

What It Cost
The whole bill was 27€ for the lunch. Sophie’s menu of the day was 9.50€ , my large haddock and chips was 13.00€ , with the side of curry sauce 1.50€. For the drinks, the tea was 1.20€ and Sophies Coke Zero for the can was 1.80€, but I am guessing at the drink prices, as they’re not on the menu.

Would We Return To The Chippy La Marina
Yes, we will do so at some point. The slight hesitation in not saying we’ll be back next week, is that we have adapted to living in Spain so much that we very rarely have deep fried food. To give you an idea of what I mean by this, we worked out today that we have had fish and chips twice this year, and this is from someone who was a every Friday lunch kinda guy back in the UK.
The meal of the day is a good sized portion, I only went large for research purposes!
How To Find The Chippy La Marina
Their address is C. Francisco de Quevedo, 1, 03177 San Fulgencio, Alicante, you can find them on Google Maps here too, if that’s easier. But if you know how to get to Consum Square, they are just on the road at the bottom of the square.
If you know the area, they are a couple of doors down from Jodie’s Groom Room, where you can get your dog looking more beautiful than ever.
The Chippy does have a Facebook page, but don’t post that often.
