Amazing value is how I’d start to describe the offering at The Garden (Gastrobar) Dolores for their menu del dia lunch. Soph had seen their social media posts, commented to me how nice the menu sounded and suggested we try it.
Tuesday we were in the neighbourhood, so we decided to call in for lunch.
Now if you’re someone who likes lunch on the terrace overlooking the beach, then this isn’t happening. Situated on an industrial estate, this is one of those tucked away, traditional Spanish places that we really do enjoy.
What We Had
The menu del dia was in order today.
Drinks.
I had a couple of tanques of beer while Soph was doing the drive home, had Coke Zeros.
Food.
Starters.
We both went with the mixed salad, which was brought to the table to share, along with salt, olive oil and balasamic vinegar.
Then our first course starters. Soph had gone for the Rissotto which was mushroom and which she enjoyed. It was creamy, tasty and a large portion.
I had chosed the Huevos rotos con gulas y gambas al ajillo ( potatoes with seafood and topped with a fried egg), this too was a large portion and very enjoyable. The potatoes were nicely seasoned. Both dishes were nicely presented.
Mains.
Soph chose chicken pinchos as her main course, I had gone for the lomo. The chicken skewers were very tasty, succulent chicken and full of flavour. When the mains were brought out we were asked if we wanted bread, which was brought out. I’m guessing as we were the first there for the lunch menu, we should have had that brought out with the salad, but this was not an issue. The bread itself was lovely and fresh.
My pork was cooked nicely, the mushroom sauce was tasty and the fries were just salted too. As with the starters, the presentation was good.
Desserts.
There was a list of 7 desserts to select from, I went with Brownie Cheesecake, this was tasty.
Soph chose the plain tarta de queso.
These were big portions of cheesecake, nice bases and both were very enjoyable. We were asked if we wanted coffee, so I went for the Café Bombón, which is my go to coffee. This too was very enjoyable.
What We Liked
The service from start to finish was really attentive. We ordered everything in Spanish, which also got a very slight nod of approval. For the food itself, it was really nicely presented, tasty and eally good value for money.
Tables were quickly cleared away, there is seating indoors as well as outside. We had a table in the sun. which for Februay was ideal. There are tables outside in the shade too.
What Could Be Improved
There was nothing at all that needed any attention. I visted the gents, this too was spotlessly clean.
How Much Did It Cost
Lunch was 31€ in total. The menu del dia is 13.00€ each, including a drink ( this being a soft drink, water or small beer ) as I had ordered a couple of large beers these were separate but at 2.50€ per pint, very, very good value.
The price also includes the coffee.
Would We Return To The Garden (Gastrobar) Dolores
Of course we would is the straight forward answer.
How To Get To The Garden (Gastrobar) Dolores
Their address is avenida de la Coruña n°6, Dolores, Spain, 03150, so my suggestion would be to use SatNav if you don’t know the way.
If I was going to describe it to someone who knows the area, I’d say ” leave Dolores on the CV-855 road, go past the trun off to MiHobby. Follow CV-855, go past the Cepsa fuel station on the left, to Av. Comunidad Valenciana. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Av. Comunidad Valenciana, then at the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Av. de la Coruña.
At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto C. Salamanca. Take then a very quick turn left onto Av. de la Coruña. The bar is to your right.
Check their Facebook page for further details and to be honest, I’d suggest booking.
