Today we visited for the very first time Restaurante El Capitán over in La Marina. We had met up for a quick coffee in a bar in Consum Square and while we were across in the neighbourhood, we decided to have either tapas or lunch at Goliat, where we have been many times and always enjoyed it. Sadly the last time we went, the place was closed, and as there was nowhere to park close by, we ended up driving away.
Anyway, we drove up from Consum Square, following a teeth pulling route, thanks to the new no entry signs and one way system. There were uniformed police in an unmarked vehicle at the bottom of one of the stretches of road, who had watched two cyclists ride up the street the wrong way, and basically told them they could dismount and walk up the next section or turn around and find an alternate route. So, eventually we got to Goliat to find once again it was closed once again, really annoying!
So, as we had driven past Restaurante El Capitán and there was parking there, plus the fact that they sell Estella Galicia, it seemed a great opportunity to try somewhere new.

What We Had
We decided to have drinks and tapas, to keep it simple.
Drinks
I had a tanque of Estrella Galicia on tap, Soph had a Coke Zero, this was a can but came with a pint Coke glass, although no ice and a slice, although the can was cold and straight from the fridge.
Tapas
We went for 3 dishes to start, that way we could try more, if we wanted.
Croquettes – There were 4 of these served on a small bed of lettuce. They were fine, your run of the mill, bought in frozen, and then fried croquettes.

Ukrainian Empenadas – These delightful little bites were the best of the three dishes; they had taste and texture. As you can see, the fact that they are different shapes and sizes shows that these are handmade.

Magra Con Tomate – The fact this came without bread was the first thing we noticed. The meat was lean, it was tender but the sauce was like something from a jar, both in appearance and taste.

What We Liked
Prompt service, plenty of seating available in the covered terrace, which benefited from a nice breeze too. This was good, as according to the electronic sign at the farmacia next door but one, it was 32c.
The drinks prices are good! Oh and here we got a receipt too!
What Could Be Improved
This is a difficult one, as there wasn’t anything really negative to comment upon. My one big issue is that I can never understand any tapas bar that serves dishes with a sauce such as magra con tomate and doesn’t serve fresh bread with it. Especially when you only have a knife and fork as cutlery.
What It Cost
For both our drinks and the three tapas dishes, it was 18.30€ today.
For the drinks, my Estrella Galicia tanque was just 3.00€ and Sophs canned Coke Zero was 2.00€.
The tapas were croquettes 4.80€ were for 4, the Ukrainian empanadas were 3.00€ for 2 and the Magra con tomate was 5.50€

Would We Return To Restaurante El Capitán
Quite possibly for drinks, but very doubtful for food. The drinks prices at Restaurante El Capitán are very good and should attract plenty of visitors, of that I’m sure.
Here are a couple of pages from their menu.

The fact that there were only 2 British blokes sat here nursing a soft drink each as we arrived, yet across at Dos Mas, the place was very busy, could have been an indicator. Yes, a couple arrived while we were there and then a group of 8 not long after them, but both asked if they did food, so clearly were not regulars.
How To Find Restaurante El Capitán In La Marina
Their address is Pl. Sierra Castilla, 151, 03177 San Fulgencio, Alicante, and yes, I know there is zero mention of La Marina in there. So, unless you know where this street is, you can either put their name into your Sat Nav or put in Euronics La Marina or Euronics la Tienda.
This is the link to Google Maps, if that is easier.
