You must visit Pedro’s Bar and Cafeteria in Rojales for several reasons which I’ll explain in this write up.
Soph had mentioned in passing she’d seen a place on Facebook that looked to have a nice weekly menu del dia and that we should try it. So Friday, 11th April, we had to go back into Torrevieja to finish off my car service, read all about that here, so we timed it so we could get to our 1.30pm reservation at Pedro’s, down in Rojales.
There was plenty of on street parking and we wandered in just before we’d booked for. The chap there seated us and brought the menu and took the drinks order. While browsing the menu, I saw a familiar face, who I now know to be Pedro. We’d first met him when he was a partner at another restaurant, before selling to his business partner and moving on. He then worked at Rodizio Restaurante Quesada, and I said back then in my write up “I also recognized one of the servers. He used to be front of house at a restaurant in another town, and he is a great guy. He is Spanish with an excellent grasp of English.”

Admittedly it’s great when a Spanish speaker has a great understanding of English nuances, so when he asks how the dessert was and I reply ” Yeah, it wasn’t too bad ” he can laughing say back to me ” well at least you didn’t say it was bad ” with a twinkle in his eye – it was actually excellent.
What We Had At Pedro’s Bar And Cafeteria
We both went for the menu del dia, and we both loved it.
Drinks
I asked for a beer, and was asked if I wanted a large one, so I went for that. Soph, realising she’d be driving had a Coke Zero. During the meal she also had an Aquarius Lemon, while I finished off my meal with a Bombon coffee and then a cocktail!

Food
The menu del dia was our choice for food and we had the following.
To Begin
A bread basket with alioli was brought out and a house salad to share.
The bread was lovely and soft, very fresh. The ailoli was tasty. We both enjoyed the tuna salad, it was nicely presented and the small touches such as using both red and white onions for flavours was evident.

Starters
Quite often we’ll have different dishes, partly to swap and try each others and also so we can write up the different dishes. Today, however we both went for the same, just because it sounded so appealing and this was Arabic style chicken skewers with mint yoghurt dressing. The aroma as this was brought to the table hit us straight away. The dishes were both very nicely presented.
Tasty, succulent chicken and the dressing just added another level of flavour.

Mains
I was originally going to have the salmon, but I’d had salmon at home for dinner last night, so we both went for the same dish again, the solomillo pork with the Jack Daniels sauce. As with the starter, this was very nicely presented, a decent sized portion and it was very tasty. The meat was tender.

Dessert
There was a choice of three desserts on the board, we both went for the rice pudding. This was tasty, there was just enough for it not to be too indulgent, but the cinnamon just really added to the flavour. Desserts were served in nice, attractive dishes too.

What We Liked
From start to finish the service was exceptional, with regular check backs being made while we were dining. Welcoming, friendly and the staff speak good English, just in case your Spanish isn’t as good as you think it is.
This is a lovely location, it’s been done out nicely, the decor is rustic and homely. The crockery is not the boring plain white, you get in some eateries and this adds to the sense of quality.
The gents bathroom was spotlessly clean too.
What Could Be Improved
Zero, nothing, nada based on our visit today. Service was fluid, everything flowed nicely and came out on time.
What It Cost For Lunch
The cost of our wonderful lunch, my Bombon and cocktail came to 42.50 in total.
To break this down, the menu del dia are 14.00 per head. My beer tanque was 3.00, Bombon coffee was 1.50 and finally my cocktail was 9.50
Would We Return To Pedro’s
In a heartbeat, to be honest. This is restaurant quality food, that is a notch above a lot of menu del dia offerings.
Service was excellent, the food was fabulous and the premises were spotlessly clean throughout and nicely decorated to make it feel welcoming and rustic.
