Despite it opening in September, Bar La Musica Catral was a new one to me until last week.
I’d called in here last week, for a quick coffee while Soph was back in the UK. Sat outside in the lovely warm sunshine and decided we’d have to visit here, either just for a drink or drink and food. So this is what we chose to do this Friday, 21st February.
When we arrived there was just one other customer, a Spanish guy who was having a coffee. The other day there must have been 15 or 16 other people sat in the courtyard, but as it was overcast and a little bit cooler, the place was dead.
What We Had
We asked for the menu, Soph ordered a Coke Zero, I saw they offered a can and tapas for 3€, so I asked for that. The beer is Estrella Galicia, one of my favourites back from when we lived down in Granada.
Drinks.
In addition to the above first round, I had a second cana and Soph had a further Coke Zero.
Food.
Soph order a bocadilla, opting for the Trompeta . I decided to order montaditos and said to Soph, I’d try 3 different ones, to see what they were like. We said we’d share a portion of the Papas Bravas or usually called Potato Bravas too.
The potato bravas arrived first, these were fine, the sauce wasn’t overly spicy, they were seasoned with salt.

Soph had the Trompeta = The trumpet which is chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato bocadillo, which she said was quite filling. Sadly the chicken in this was more of a deep fried chicken style, as opposed to the expected roasted chicken, that most places serve.

I had the 3 different montaditos. Unlike other bars where I order these and they are the individual small rolls, this was a bocadilla bread cut into 3.

First was a Piano = Salchicha blanco y morcilla ( White sausage and black pudding ). This was sausage and morcilla and I have to say I enjoyed this. It was tasty and very enjoyable, my favourite of the three.
Second was the Acordeon which was panceta a la brasa y tomate ( grilled bacon and tomato ).
Third one was the Maracas which was filete de ternera ( beef steak ) with butter. Again it was ok.
What We Liked About Bar La Musica Catral
A lovely location, with plenty of outdoor seating available and plenty of shade if needed thanks to the huge tree and numerous umbrellas.
Drinks are reasonably priced too, which is another plus point.
What Could Be Improved
Speed of service isn’t the quickest here, which I have experienced on both visits, so I feel if they suddenly had an influx of customers all arrive unannounced, they might struggle a little.
They do a menu del dia at Bar La Musica Catral, but it’s not really promoted, otherwise we might have been tempted to try that, had we known.

What Did It Cost
The final bill came to 27.00€ for everything. The break down is thus:
Drinks.
The tapa and cana is 3€ and my cana was 1.50€. Sophs soft drinks were both 1.50€ each.
Food.
The Papas Bravas were 6€ for the plate.
Sophs bocadilla ( Trumpet ) was 6€
My Montaditos were 2.50€ each, though on the menu they are shown as 2€, ( with a 50c additional cost ).

Would We Return To Bar La Musica Catral
Yes we would do so, especially for a quiet drink in a relaxing environment in the outdoor area. Foodwise, the best montaditos by far are at Bar Sonia and comparing our bill there the other month ( read the write up here ) to the visit today for a euro difference, the vote would go to Sonias, foodwise. Another great place is Cantina in Rojales, where you get Montaditos the small portion of 5 were just 8.50€, ( read this one here ) to compare.
