We had what ranks amongst the best ever menu del dias we’ve ever had in Spain in Benijofar at the La Luna Restaurante. This is not something I say lightly, but the food today was great. Now, this is not the cheapest lunch offering, but if you are unable to recognise value for money, then a MaccyD’s might be an option.
But joking aside, if you’re used to paying €10 for a menu del dia, this is a chance to push the boat out a little and enjoy what I would describe as restaurant-quality food without the expensive restaurant prices. They have a lovely vegetarian menu with vegan options, too, if you prefer not to have meat.
As with all popular places, it’s best to book. We hadn’t today, but we managed to get a table; however, there were some tables reserved, and as we head into the summer season, I suspect that will become more of the case.
What We Had At La Luna Restaurante
We both went for the menu del dia, which includes a starter, main, dessert, or coffee. We added the bread and alioli, which is an additional €1 per person. The bread was fresh and soft, served with homemade alioli and a fresh tomato dip.
Starters
I deliberated and then decided to try the tacos as my starter. These were a decent-sized portion with plenty of meat. What I especially liked was the simple touch that the wraps had been warmed on the grill, which added to the flavour.
Soph went for the prawn cocktail at a €2 supplement. Talk about an impressive starter. This was huge and packed full of prawns.
Mains
I knew as soon as I saw the menu that I wanted to try the Solomillo with the peppercorn sauce. This was a really tasty serving, with generous portions of tenderloin meat and plenty of chips, too. The Solomillo was incredibly tender. In fact it was so good it deserved two photos to really show it off 🙂
Soph chose the fish of the day, Sea Bass, which was incredibly good. The fish flaked perfectly and the salsa was tasty without overpowering the fish. It was another good-sized serving, and there was not a bone in sight. Soph also mentioned that it was nice to have some vegetables, which are so often missing on a menu del dia main course.
Desserts
Quite often, I’ll have a coffee to finish a meal, but today, I decided to try a dessert to see if it was as good as the previous courses. I plumped for the cheesecake while Soph went for the brownie.
The cheesecake was incredible! It wasn’t one of those fluffy, no-taste desserts; instead, it packed flavour and was a luxurious finish to a great meal.
The brownie also got the thumbs up; it wasn’t quite as rich as the cheesecake, but it was still a great option and beautifully presented.
What We Liked At Restaurant La Luna Benijofar
It is difficult to nail down any one particular aspect. The service was super friendly, quick, and very polite throughout the lunch. The food was brilliant across all the courses. This is a spotless venue; the bathrooms were very clean. Tables were quickly cleared, so there were no piles of dirty dishes left around.
All the dishes were generous portions, nicely presented, and cooked with skill. The overriding impression is that there is an accomplished chef in the kitchen who takes enormous pride in their work.
What Could Be Improved?
There was nothing at all today that we could find fault with.
How Much Did It Cost At La Luna Restaurante Benijofar
Our delightful lunch today, including a drink each, cost €39.30. The bread and alioli were an extra €1 per person. The menu del dia was €15.90 each. Soph went for a starter with an extra €2 supplement ( but it seems we weren’t charged for this).
There are no drinks included, so Soph’s soft drink was €2.00 while my pint of draught beer was €3.50.
Would We Return To The La Luna Restaurante?
A 100% yes. The menu has so many interesting and tempting dishes, and if the quality is the same as the food we were served today, then this will be added to our list of regular haunts.

If you’re coming along the bottom road, so the fountain is on your left, follow the road around to the right, go up the hill, and you’ll see La Luna Restaurante on your left.
