Uber In Alicante Airport And Elche

HeyDaveHere, June 27, 2024June 27, 2024

You’ll soon have the option of Uber in Alicante Elche airport when you land here.

In a move to bolster public transport options, Elche City Council has announced a significant boost to passenger services with the arrival of 40 new vehicles. These vehicles come courtesy of a partnership with ride-hailing giant Uber, marking a significant step forward for the municipality.

The new fleet began operating on Wednesday, with 10 vehicles dedicated to serving passengers within Elche itself. The remaining 30 vehicles will be deployed at Alicante-Elche Airport, offering a much-needed solution for travellers who have previously faced long taxi queues.

This development is particularly welcome news for those arriving at the airport, which currently lacks a direct rail connection. The ease and convenience of ride-hailing services like Uber will undoubtedly be a welcome addition for passengers seeking a smoother and more efficient way to reach their destination.

Uber Expands to Elche and Alicante, Offering Relief for Airport Travellers.

Starting this week, travellers arriving at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport can finally breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to transportation. Uber, the popular ride-hailing app, has officially launched operations in the area, offering a much-needed alternative to taxi queues. This expansion brings Uber’s services to both Elche and Alicante cities, marking the ninth and tenth Spanish cities to enjoy the convenience of the platform.

The arrival of Uber boasts a fleet of 40 vehicles, strategically distributed to address local needs. Thirty of these vehicles will be dedicated to serving Alicante city and the airport, providing a readily available service for travellers and locals alike. The remaining ten vehicles will operate exclusively within Elche, ensuring residents have access to efficient and comfortable transportation options within their own city.

While some might see Uber as competition for traditional taxi services, the company director emphasizes their desire for collaboration. They encourage taxi drivers in Elche to consider joining the Uber platform. Registration is a straightforward process, and drivers can benefit from increased customer demand and streamlined user management provided by Uber. This partnership could potentially incentivize taxi drivers while also expanding transportation options for the public. But for travelers seeing Uber in Alicante Elche airport could be a very welcome option.

Easing the Burden at Alicante-Elche Airport.

Travellers arriving at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport have long faced the frustration of lengthy taxi queues, particularly during peak seasons. The airport, lacking a direct rail connection, has relied solely on taxis to transport passengers to Alicante and Elche cities.

The introduction of Uber’s services directly addresses this issue. A dedicated fleet of 30 vehicles will be stationed at the airport, ensuring a readily available and convenient transportation option for arriving passengers. This will undoubtedly improve the overall travel experience for tourists and business visitors alike.

Enhancing Mobility Options in Elche and Alicante.

The remaining 10 Uber vehicles will be dedicated to serving passengers within Elche itself. This expansion provides Elche residents with a new and potentially more flexible way to get around their city. Similarly, residents of Alicante will benefit from the increased availability of ride-hailing services alongside existing public transport options.

Other Options Of Transfers

We know a lot of people prefer to hire a car, plus obviously those on package holidays will usually have transfers included. It’s more likely this will appeal to the solo traveler or a couple who only have hand luggage. But, and it is a large but, could Uber add SUVs and minibus options for this area too? Could the council grant further licences in the near future?

Irrespective though, there will still be the regular taxis available and also car hire, bus services and pre booked dedicated transfer services to resorts such as Benidorm and Torrevieja. By pre booking a specialist transfer, you know they have the vehicle waiting for you, where there is a risk of waiting till you land that there may not be many taxis available and there is no Uber driver in the area, meaning a long wait until they arrive to pick you up.

What Next?

Could places like Quesada, Torrevieja and the surrounding areas see Uber coming to town? Let’s wait and see.
