Soph and I went back to La Famiglia in Catral on the Friday evening. Truth is, this was our fourth visit, in the past 7 weeks and each time before, we’d not done a write up. We therefore decided, tonight is the night!
We know quite a few people who eat here and we know it gets busy on an evening, so booking is essential. Last time for my pizza I went with the Mariscos, this was full of seafood including mussels, shellfish and tuna. As tempted though as I was to order the same, I was determined to try something different this time around.
What We Had
I decided to try a different pizza this time, while Sophie went for a calzone again, though with different fillings
Drinks
We both had a Coke Zero, these are the bottled variety, as opposed to the can so a little more drink for your money.
Food
Starters
The same as on our last visits, we chose Garlic Bread with Cheese, to share. As we were seated outside and enjoying feeling chilled & relaxed we said we were happy to have it brought out with our mains.
This was delicious, loads of cheese, tons of garlic and the aroma was wonderful.

Mains
For the mains I went for the Barbacoa pizza for myself, Soph going again for the Calzone Normal.
Barbacoa:
Topped with tomato, mozzarella, bacon, onion, minced meat, bbq sauce and basil and it was huge.

Calzone:
The filling included tomato, mozzarella, ham, parmesan and basil, again very large and very filling

What We Liked
The quality of the food is really good, it is worth the wait. As the portions are huge, you can take what you don’t eat home, which is what we did, once again.
What Could Be Improved
They were busy last night but there were just the two servers. I understand that dishes made from scratch take time and more so with large pizzas so this really wasn’t an issue but it is something to bear in mind if you’re short on time. Maybe they could bring some olives or nibbles as we have had before, a packet of crisps brought to the table. The thing is you know you don’t want to order a starter off the menu as the mains are so substantial!
We were not offered a chupito on this visit, which I can only assume was because they were so busy staff didn’t have time to offer extras.
It wasn’t until we left that I realised that we had been charged 40c for the pizza box to take home the leftovers. I have no problem with this but it does seem to go against the legislation 1/2025, which requires every bar, café and restaurant to provide a free, suitable container when customers ask to take home unfinished food.
40c is not going to stop me going here again or recommending it to others but it’s just something to be aware of.
How Much Did It Cost
Our bill was 35,30€ in total
Drinks were 2,20€ each
Garlic Bread with Cheese 6,50€
Barbacoa 12,50€
Calzone 11,50€

Would We Return To La Famiglia In Catral
Yes we would and it’s great to see they do pizza all day on a weekend so a lunch time option on a Saturday or Sunday.
Realistically, we could order a pizza and garlic bread starter to share and we’d still probably end up taking some home with us! It really is good value for money.
