Well we finally got around to visiting Squirrels Bar And Grill, and were prompted by a close friend who had been a couple of times since they opened. So, when our friend Viv had suggested I might like their Black N Blue Burger, then I took the hint and we called in here.
We used to call in when this was Tommys bar and never had a bad experience when dining. On one of the rare times we went out on an evening for a music night out, we went here, but I am digressing.
The Squirrels branding is evident and the owners have invested in this. The meals were served on wooden serving boards, which are branded. The bill was presented on a branded wooden bill presenter, which again stands out from the norm.
What We Had Squirrels Bar And Grill
Drinks
I had a pint of Aguila. Soph had said it was too cold for a cold drink, so did the British thing and went for a cup of tea. The good thing here was it was in a mug, so a good sized measure.
Food
I like cheese, I especially like blue cheese, so I ordered the Black N Blue Burger. This was a great choice, the burger along with the blue cheese packed a punch in terms of flavour.
The burger itself was seasoned nicely, the blackened brioche bun was a nice touch too.
Soph went for the Southern Fried Chicken Wrap, off the Pub Classics on the menu.
A good sized portion, nicely presented.
Both these dishes came with a lovely side of coleslaw.
What We Liked
Prompt, friendly service. Also the toilets were spotless, the scented sticks in there really did make the bathroom smell fresh.
There’s plenty of parking across the street in the big car park, or you can try to squeeze in right outside the door, in the small car park.
Another plus point for today is we saw they have invested too in patio heaters, which although not in use today, will be ideal when the weather drops and winter does kick in.
What Could Have Been Improved
This is just a little niggle and I only thought about this after we had left and I was doing the write up. The fries I had with my burger were fries, as advertised. Soph was served the same fries, which she was expecting to get proper chips, as per the menu and the people on the next table had nice looking chips with their meal.
Again, it’s not too much of an issue, but it’s one we’d watch out for next time.
How Much Did It Cost At Squirrels Bar & Grill Benimar
The bill for lunch was 21.40€ which we feel was good value. The meals were freshly prepared and very enjoyable. We didn’t have starters and didn’t need them.
Drinks
My pint of beer was a reasonable 2.80€ and it was 1.50€ for Sophs large tea.
Food
My Black N Blue burger was 9.50€ and the Southern Fried Chicken Wrap came in at 7.50€, both were good value!
Would We Return To Squirrels Bar And Grill
Without a doubt, I’ve been advised by a friend that I must try their Liver & Onions, as he had it and loved it. So this will probably be my meal choice for our next visit, even though I really did enjoy my burger today. If you’re looking for good, English food then Squirrels Bar And Grill should be on your list of places to visit.
Although, as yet, we have not tried their Sunday Lunch, the menus for this do look very tempting too.
