We were in San Fulgencio and we dropped in at Sami’s Plaza Cafe Bar for a quick drink and decided to have something to eat. The place was very quiet, just one other couple in there, so service was quick.
It’s down a one way street, looks like a traditional Spanish bar, so in we went with no expectations in place.
What We Had
We both had a drink and a tostada, nothing too exotic there.
Drinks.
Soph went for a Coke Zero, this was a large bottle as opposed to a can. I saw they had Mahou Classic on tap, so had a tanque.
Food.
We both had a tostada here, Soph going for the tomato and I chose my favourite, the tomato, cheese and Serrano ham one.
We both really enjoyed our tostadas, the bread was lovely and fresh, soft and tasty.
My one had plenty of ham on there and three nice, big pieces of cheese, all of which was very tasty. Foodwise, there was nothing to complain about at all, I actually commented to Soph, that this was one of the best tostadas I had eaten recently.
What We Liked
Really nice tostadas. Tasty, fresh and very good. Sophs had a lot of tomato on and it was tasty. The ham on mine was very tasty.
What Could Be Improved
The price of beer is eye watering. Soph went to pay, the server told her the amount verbally. She turned and looked at me, her face was a picture. She then asked for a receipt and paid the money, handing over a 20€ note and I saw from where I was sitting the note she got back was a 5€ plus some coins.
What Did It Cost
The bill for a soft drink, a tanque of beer and two tostadas was 11.85€.

Tanque 4.95€
Coke Zero 2.50€
Tostada Con Tomate 1.30€
Tostada con Tomate, queso y jamon 3.10€. So, it looks like mine was 2.50€ as a base price, then 30c each for the cheese and the tomato, making it a 3.10€ tostada.
Would We Return To Sami’s Plaza Cafe Bar
Weirdly while eating, we both agreed we would do so, as the tostadas were really good. After getting the bill, it is time to think again. We don’t live in this town, we were passing through, but when you can go to bars and pay 2.50€ a pint, why travel here to pay double?
The fact Soph had to ask for a receipt to see if we had accidentally been overcharged, kind of said plenty, but to discover that this is the standard price for a beer was a shock. I was stunned in may at Café Tambalache Los Montesinos when I was charged 4.50€ for a beer, but this place takes the crown as most expensive beer in the area.
As nice as the tostada was, I really would struggle to justify paying almost a fiver for a beer. I would just have a coffee, next time.
