Morning: Breathtaking Beginnings

8:00 AM: Breakfast with a Spanish Twist

Start your day like a true Sevillano with a coffee and toast at one of the city’s traditional cafés. Head to Bar El Comercio, a local favourite since 1904. Their crispy toast with tomato and olive oil paired with a “café con leche” will fuel your adventures. If you’re feeling indulgent, try their churros con chocolate—pure morning bliss!

9:00 AM: The Royal Alcázar

Beat the crowds by making the Royal Alcázar your first stop. This stunning palace is a mix of Christian and Moorish architecture that will leave you speechless. Game of Thrones fans might recognise it as the Water Gardens of Dorne! Book tickets online to skip the queues—your future self will thank you.

Wander through the intricate tile work and peaceful gardens, letting yourself get lost in centuries of history. The geometric patterns and tranquil fountains create a sense of stepping back in time. Don’t miss the Ambassador’s Hall with its breathtaking golden dome.

11:30 AM: Seville Cathedral and La Giralda

Just a short walk from the Alcázar stands the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Christopher Columbus is buried here, and the awe-inspiring interior will make your jaw drop.

Climb La Giralda tower for panoramic views of Seville’s terracotta rooftops and winding streets. The climb is surprisingly easy—instead of stairs, it mostly uses ramps that were built so guards could ride horses to the top!

Afternoon: Culture and Cuisine

1:30 PM: Lunch in Barrio Santa Cruz

You’ve worked up an appetite, so dive into Seville’s food scene in the enchanting Jewish Quarter. Get lost in the maze of narrow lanes until you stumble upon Bar Alfalfa or Taberna Coloniales.

Order a few tapas to share—patatas bravas (potatoes with spicy sauce), espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas), and salmorejo (cold tomato soup) are local specialties. Wash it all down with a cold “tinto de verano”—a refreshing mix of red wine and lemon soda that locals prefer over sangria.

3:00 PM: Plaza de España and María Luisa Park

Walk off your lunch with a stroll to the magnificent Plaza de España, perhaps Seville’s most photogenic spot. Built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, this semi-circular plaza showcases colourful ceramic tiles representing different Spanish provinces.

Rent a small rowboat to paddle along the canal or simply admire the architecture and street performers. Afterwards, cool off under the shady trees of María Luisa Park, where you might catch locals playing cards or enjoying afternoon chats.

5:00 PM: Shopping and Flamenco Museum

Take a shopping break on Calle Sierpes, Seville’s main shopping street. Pick up some local souvenirs like ceramic tiles or traditional fans.

Next, immerse yourself in Andalusian culture at the Flamenco Museum. Learn about this passionate art form through interactive exhibits before catching an early evening performance. The raw emotion of flamenco is something you simply must experience in its birthplace.

Evening: Sunset to Starlight

7:30 PM: Sunset at Metropol Parasol

Known locally as “Las Setas” (The Mushrooms), this modern wooden structure offers spectacular sunset views across the city. The contrast between this contemporary landmark and Seville’s ancient buildings perfectly captures the city’s blend of old and new.

9:00 PM: Dinner in Triana

Cross the Guadalquivir River to Triana, the soulful neighbourhood once home to sailors and flamenco artists. This area comes alive at night with locals enjoying dinner well past 9 PM.

Try Casa Anselma or Bar Blanca Paloma for authentic local food. Be brave and order caracoles (snails in broth)—a Sevillian specialty—or stick with safer bets like grilled prawns and crispy croquetas. Strike up a conversation with locals at the bar; Sevillanos are famously friendly.

11:00 PM: Nightcap and Riverside Stroll

End your perfect day with a digestif at one of the riverside bars. A sweet Pedro Ximénez sherry sipped slowly while gazing at the illuminated monuments across the water creates memories that will last long after your suntan fades.

If you still have energy, join the locals for a midnight stroll along the river. In summer, this is when the city truly comes alive as people escape the day’s heat.

Tips to Make the Most of Your Day

  • Beat the Heat: If visiting between June and September, follow locals’ lead and take a midday break. The scorching afternoon sun is no joke!
  • Dress Code: Wear comfortable shoes and modest attire for cathedral visits. Layers are perfect for spring and autumn.
  • Water Wisdom: Carry a refillable water bottle. Seville’s public fountains provide safe drinking water.
  • Timing is Everything: Many attractions close on Mondays, and shops often shut between 2-5 PM for siesta.
  • Language Love: Learn a few Spanish phrases. Even simple greetings will win smiles from locals.
