We visited La Chola in Catral today for lunch. This was our first ever visit and it won’t be our last. A month or so back we were going to call in, but the street was blocked due to a delivery on an artic, the one way system was busy, so we went home. Friends of ours have been two or three times already, and this place has only been open 3 months at the most, so this was why we added it to our list.
Although it takes a bit of navigating around the one way system it’s a nice place on the edge of the industrial estate. I’m guessing they have a different menu each day and it will be really helpful for some visitors that it was also available printed out in English.
What We Had
The menu del dia was our lunch today and we chose different selections each to get a good feel for the food on offer.

Drinks.
We both ordered a Coke Zero, these were cans of Coke, so the 330ml size.
Food.
Starters.
Bread was brought to the table along with a dish of olives.
I had the Fabada, which was full of meat and chickpeas, the bread was great for mopping up the plate. Full of flavour, this was a hearty starter.

Fabada

Soph chose the paella, which was very tasty with the rice perfectly al dente and the meat falling from the bone it was that tender.
Mains.
Soph went with the chicken, which came cooked in a tomato sauce and with fries. Plenty of meat, nice tasting and she really enjoyed it.

I went for Migas for my main, a dish we used to get as tapas from time to time during winter months when we lived down in Granada, a few years back. The sweet melon was a nice touch.

Yes, I know it’s not the healthiest of dishes, but it is authentic, rustic and tasty.
Desserts.

Almond cake for me, this was good, tasty and moist and did the job. Soph had the rice pudding, exactly as expected though it was a large portion.

We were also offered a coffee, so I went for a Bombon which was really enjoyable.

What We Liked
Friendly, prompt service from Jesus. Nice modern decor and everywhere, including the toilets was spotlessly clean. Although from the outside it may not look much, it is a nice interior and somewhere we’d happily invite friends to for lunch.
What Could Be Improved
Nothing of importance, this is a down to earth, no frills rustic Spanish eating place.
it would be nice to see a Facebook page, even if just to put on each of the daily menus, so people can see in advance.
What Did Lunch At La Chola Catral Cost
Our lunch today was just 24€, for 3 course, a drink and my coffee. The menu del dia is a fixed 12€ each.
We didn’t get a receipt, although Soph paid by card, so she got a copy of the card receipt.
Would We Return To La Chola
Of course we would, it is nice to find an authentic Spanish place to eat, no frills, yet well prepared, traditional food, that hasn’t been sanitised for non Spanish.
