When you see a menu offering online, and it stands out as being slightly different from the run-of-the-mill Sunday lunches, we knew we had to try Los Hermanos. After a fantastic Sunday lunch at Browns a few weeks ago, we wondered how Los Hermanos would compare.
Far too often, you see a menu on social media, but you look and see the same old, same old, such as deep-fried brie as a starter, or when you look at the images, it’s an Aunt Bessies Yorkshire pudding on offer. This menu stood out from the masses; the photos looked good, so this was one we needed to see if what was offered was as good as we expected. In a nutshell, yes, it was!
What We Had at Los Hermanos
We both went for Coke to drink, which surprised Soph as this is an Estrella Galicia establishment, and this is usually one of my go-to beers.
For starters, I went for the pea and ham hock soup and minted croutons, which came with a nice chunk of warm, fresh bread. This was a really nice soup, with depths of flavour and plenty of ham in there. Soph opted for the Mushroom and Leek Bruschetta, which was tasty and well-presented. Both were good portion sizes, and it was at this point we were wondering if we’d make all three courses!

For my main, I went with the beef, and Soph chose the gammon, both served with amazing homemade Yorkshire puddings, which are probably among some of the best we’ve had; the photos don’t do them justice or show quite how huge they were! Alongside was roast and creamed potatoes, gravy, and really tasty stuffing.

The roasts came with a side of vegetables, including cauliflower cheese, cabbage, peas, and carrots.

There was a generous serving of meat on both plates; the vegetables were hot and fresh and cooked perfectly.
So, on to desserts. The peanut butter and jelly cheesecake caught my eye, so that was an easy choice, but I think Soph had the easier choice with ‘the stickiest toffee pudding ever’. If you have a sweet tooth, the cheesecake will be sure to delight your palate. The toffee pudding was very light and had good flavours, it wasn’t too sticky, but that was actually a good thing coming after two very substantial courses.

One thing I would mention is after my mains, I was actually debating not to have a dessert, as I was that full.
What We Liked at Los Hermanos
The food was very good; it was great to have a meal that was very evidently prepared and cooked by someone who is highly skilled in their profession. The price also offers excellent value for money.
What Could Be Improved At Los Hermanos
From the customer experience, the service needs to be tightened up a little, but as this was the first-ever Sunday lunch service, this wasn’t a huge thing.
There did seem to be some cross-over as to who was serving what and who. One person brought us the menu for the desserts, then vanished and never came back; we then had to catch another server’s attention. It also was slow trying to get the bill paid, the table behind us eventually got their bill brought across, but we actually got ours after they did and then managed to pay before them.
Here, though, again, one person brought the bill, another took the payment in cash, but then the first person brought the change out. As we were leaving, the couple behind us managed to pay after what must have been a 10-minute wait. But again, this shouldn’t distract you from coming to Los Hermanos; every member of the team was friendly and helpful, and I am sure they will get into their stride very quickly.
From the business perspective, the dessert portions could probably be half the size and still be filling. I did struggle to finish mine, as did Soph.
How Much Did It Cost?
All in all, this came in at €33.90, which was very reasonable considering the quality of the food.

Would We Return To Los Hermanos Torrevieja
Yes, without a doubt. They also have new menus for midweek dining on their website and Facebook page, and this is a friendly place where I am sure they will develop a very loyal following. They were fully booked today and turned away folk who turned up without a booking, so do make sure you reserve a table in advance.
How To Find Los Hermanos
Come along the CV-95 so that the hospital is on your right, then at the roundabout, take the first exit up Avenida Angel Garcia Rogel 1, and there should be on-street parking. Look for the small row of shops on the left, and between them and the entrance to Mercadona is the way into the restaurant.
