After seeing someone talk about the FireClay Indian Rojales on Social media, we said we’d have to visit. We were going to be in the Rojales area, I needed to fill my car up and for my unleaded paid €1.29 a litre, so was happy at that too.
What we experienced today was top quality, freshly prepared food that was packed full of flavour. We both left feeling full, neither of us had a starter or dessert and neither of us eat breakfast. These were some of the best Indian curry dishes I have eaten in over 40 years!
Let me preempt this review by saying if you’re the sort of person who wants an all you can eat for a tenner or a Phaal washed down with €1.50 pints of Fosters or Carling, then this is not your type of place.
As soon as we were seated, the aroma from the kitchen was making my mouth water.
I’ve been eating authentic Indian curries for well over 40 years, coming from just outside Bradford and visiting the places such as The Kashmir Restaurant on Morley Street and Karachi Restaurant on Neal Street. I know a little bit about good, curry dishes.
Since then we have enjoyed curries in Goa, Dubai, and India on the mainland. One of the very best curry dishes we had was in the first class lounge in Mumbai airport, and my meal today was as good as this, but I digress.
What We Had At FireClay Indian Restaurant In Rojales
Drinks
I wanted to keep a clean palette, so stuck to water for the meal. Soph decided to do the same thing. We were offered a complimentary shot at the end of the meal.
Food
We were served complimentary poppadoms and dips. These were fresh and the dips had plenty of taste.
We actually chose not to bother with any starter, instead we wanted to get straight into the main event.
I was torn between the Railway Lamb Curry ( which I have had before, in India ) or the Rajasthani Laal Maas which was a new one to me, but I opted for the Railway Lamb Curry. Soph chose the Keralan Fish Curry, which was wonderful. I chose the Tandoori Mint Parantha to accompany my dish, Soph chose a Bombay Special Naan.
FireClay Indian Rojales Railway Lamb Curry
The tastes just danced in your mouth and on your tongue. It was not too hot, but right at the very end of the first mouthful a kick of heat made an appearance. There was minced lamb on the top of the dish with pieces of lamb underneath. The flavours here were exquisite and oh, so enjoyable.
Tandoori Mint Parantha
This is a wonderfully light yet textured bread. There was a hint of the mint, but it was not over powering at all.
Keralan Fish Curry
This was a beautiful dish, packed full of tender salmon that literally melted in your mouth. A wonderful mix of fresh herbs and spices, made this a delight to eat. As you can see in the image below, there was a lot of fish in this dish. If you like salmon, then this is a great option.
Bombay Special Naan
Fully of flavour, the aroma and taste was mouthwatering. The bread itself was ever so light but the taste really did pack a punch, but without detracting from the main dish.
What We Liked At FireClay Indian Rojales
The food was excellent, it could not be faulted at all. The service was very welcoming, friendly and prompt. The toilets were spotless, the decor inside the restaurant is nice.
You can tell each dish is freshly cooked to order as you can get the aroma of the different herbs and spices, plus the time taken indicates these are not using a generic base gravy and throwing in the protein accordingly.
What Could Be Improved
The tap in the gents runs for a tenth of a second it seems, so it takes a lot of effort to wash your hands, is the tongue in cheek comment here. The drinks are quite expensive, off the top of my head ( as we didn’t get a photo of the drinks menu ) a pint of beer is 4.50.
We asked for a large water, as we were going to share, instead we were served a small water each, so presumably this is more than one large water.
What Did It Cost Today
Our bill for the lunch visit today to FireClay Indian Rojales was €49.80. We had the complimentary popadams and were also both offered a shot at the end of the meal, we both chose the Baileys.
The bottles of water were €2.50 each.
Food
My Railway Lamb Curry was €16.95 and the Prantha was €3.95. Sophs Keralan Fish was €17.95 and the Bombay Special Naan €5.95.
Would We Return To FireClay Rojales
Yes for sure, as there are a couple of dishes that caught my eye that I’d like to try including the Rajasthani Laal Maas.
Price-wise, this is not a cheap place for a curry but the quality of the food was exceptional. We won’t be here every week, but we will be back for sure and more than happy to recommend this place to friends, who want something other than madras and chips, type Indian meals.
They do offer a menu del dia, but we didn’t choose this, as the dishes we wanted to try are not included. However, at €14.95 this is an inexpensive way to sample the quality of some of the dishes available here.
How To Get To FireClay Indian In Rojales
It’s on the road between Rojales and La Marquesa. On the left before you get to the La Marquesa turning.
Avda Justo Quesada 29 , Rojales, is their address. It is the former Argentinian Steakhouse, which was the white painted building.
You can also ring them to book on 603 51 98 04 or check out their FireClay Indian Rojales Facebook page here too.
They have directions on Google Maps here, if that is easier.
So if you’re wanting something different, there are plenty dishes on the menu to whet your appetite.
