Casa Anita

Casa Anita In Catral: Great Food, Excellent Value for Money

HeyDaveHere, April 2, 2024April 1, 2024

It was a lovely sunny Friday, and we had to pop into town, so we thought we’d have a menu del dia while we were out. This time around, we plumped for Casa Anita in Catral and booked a table for 2 p.m. It’s worth mentioning that they do open and serve food before 2 p.m., but if you’re going to be wanting paella, then this is the earliest time to book a table.

Now, we have been here before, but just for drinks, including their reopening night after they moved, although a group of us went just before Christmas and had a great meal then.

The portions are good, so you will not leave still feeling hungry. This is good, honest, wholesome cooking at an affordable price, which might account for how busy it was when we were there.

What We Had At Casa Anita Catral

We both chose the menu del Dia for this Friday and added a salad to go with it.

Drinks were Coke for Soph as she was driving, and I had a pint of draft beer. A basket of bread was brought out quickly, followed by a tuna house salad. The salad had a generous amount of tuna, the ingredients were all fresh, and at €1.50, it was a steal. Apologies, I forgot to take a photo of the salad until we had eaten half of it!

Starters

We both ordered the rabbit paella. This was brought out while we were still on our salad, but within seconds of the plate being placed next to me, the aroma was hitting my nose, and boy, it did smell wonderful. The best thing is that the taste was just as good

Mains

Soph went for the tuna, and I chose the meat option from the grill. The tuna was a really good sized piece of fish, tasted very fresh, and came with a decent portion of potatoes, too.
My grilled meat was very tasty, the sausage had plenty of flavour and the chop was really filling, it was a proper thick cut of meat.

Dessert

Soph chose the chocolate cake, and I decided to have coffee until the words ” whiskey cake” were read out. As it was a Friday, I thought sod it, I’ll have both.

I have to say this is one of the nicest whisky cakes I had had out here for a long time, there was actually whiskey poured over the dessert. Unlike some restaurants where I think they pass the plate over the opened bottle of JB, here the whisky was added over the dessert.

Soph’s chocolate cake was a really nice-sized portion, tasty and not too heavy after what was already a very generous meal

My cafe con leche was a really nice coffee, smooth and very enjoyable.

What We Liked

The food was really lovely, and the service was prompt and friendly.

What Could Be Improved

If I am going to be really picky here, if the menu del dia was posted earlier in the morning on Facebook, say 10am, it would be really helpful. But, that is being really picky!

How Much Did It Cost?

In total, the bill for the food came to 27.50 €, which is great value for money. Both of us left with a full stomach. The house salad is an additional cost, but at 1.50 € extra, it’s good value.

Would We Return To Casa Anita

There is no doubt at all that we would do. This is a great little bar and not too far from where we live.
