Cantina Rojales – Our Return Visit Did Not Disappoint!

HeyDaveHere, November 17, 2023November 17, 2023

We have recommended Cantina Rojales to many people and have yet to hear anything bad about here, which is a good sign. Plenty of people have said they liked our review from our previous visit. We originally booked lunch last Friday, but an emergency meant we had to cancel. As soon as we saw their menu del dia for this week, we messaged early this morning to book a table for the three of us for today, 31st October.

What We Had

Salad

Nice and fresh tuna salad, which came out with a basket of warm bread and really tasty aioli. This really is good aioli and much better than the little yellow tubs from the supermarket!.

First Course

We all went for the pita bread with chili and cheese. A nice texture and blend of flavours and as ever, beautifully presented.

Second Course

Here, we once again all went for the same selection, the Solomillo de Cerdo a la Pimienta (Pork fillet in a pepper sauce). This came with vegetables and chips. The chips were salted and tasty, as were the vegetables. The star of the show, though, was the Solomillo de Cerdo. This was succulent and very tender, and the sauce was just right, with the perfect balance of peppercorns.

Final Course

I was originally going to choose the fresh fruit, but changed my mind at the last minute to a coffee. My cafe con leche was very enjoyable. Soph and her mum both went for the Apple Strudel which was served with ice cream. They both thought it was really good, tasty, and just the right-sized portion to finish off their meal.

What We Liked

Super friendly service, great food, and a nice ambiance. The staff were busy, as there were a large number of tables in use but this didn’t affect the quality of customer service one little bit. We had also arrived a little early, but this was not a problem.

Oh, they also have a really nice tapas menu too, which we will get around to going back to at some point to try out. This is perfect if you don’t have the appetite for a 3-course lunch.

What Could Be Improved

Absolutely zero; a tongue-in-cheek comment here would be the weather, as it was a little overcast. But regarding the food, the service, and the premises there was nothing wrong with any aspect.

How Much Did It Cost for Lunch at Cantina Rojales?

For the three of us today, lunch came to €43.20. We each had the menu del dia, I had ordered a large beer as we were seated, and this was pro-rated on the final bill, as the menu is for a small beer. Again, this is a really nice touch. Sadly at other establishments, we have been caught out in the past where I have been offered a large beer, and been billed for it, despite not having any drink included in the fixed-priced menu cost.

Would We Return To Cantina Rojales

Yes, we would, and why not. This is a restaurant that ‘gets it.’ By this, I mean they publish their menu on social media nice and early. They offer their Menu del Dia, which is served Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 pm to 4 pm and the menu changes on a weekly basis.

What is so good is they publish this late on a Monday evening or early on a Tuesday, so you can see what the dishes are for that week and book accordingly.

Personally, it does annoy me when somewhere opens for lunch at one in the afternoon and there is no menu to be found, so you drive to the restaurant only to find the offering for that day is not that appealing. Cantina Rojales removes that by advertising in advance.

Not fluent in Spanish? Not a problem, the staff speaks English, the menus are in Spanish and also English, so you know just what you are getting.

Toilets.

I actually visited the toilets here and they were spotless. Not only that, the gents are huge and are genuine separate gents, not a shared toilet. This is another plus point.

How To Find Cantina Rojales

If you know where the Thursday market is in Rojales, then you are in the right place. You’ll no doubt see plenty of cars parked at the far end, that is where the restaurant is.
