There’s nothing better in February, to be sat outdoors at Cafe Velacho Guardamar De Segura, in a teeshirt, enjoying a bite to eat in the sun, overlooking the beach, as we did last week.
We started off with me ordering a cafe con leche, while Soph had a black tea. Our intentions were just to have a drink here then wander elsewhere. This was soon changed when we got a free tapas brought out of garlic potatoes, which I must say were very tasty. This meant we decided to stay and have a bite of lunch here.
We had to admire the English guy who was talking to his friend, in a table of what looked like two couples. He had an opinion about everything and had one of those loud voices that screamed ” look at me, listen to me “. We chuckled as he complained about a meal at an Indian that cost him a lot more than he expected, as he then went on to say instead of sticking to the set price menu, they had ordered all different sundries, starters and more.
Not being funny mate, but what did you expect? His mate who was getting the ear bashing, was hardly able to get more than one word in, so instead he enjoyed his drink and food. Best way, as the guy was moaning about all different towns and areas. Other English speakers on surrounding tables, kept glancing over at him and one woman we saw her rolling her eyes.
Not sure if he had actually spent time in these areas or just liked the sound of his own voice……. hey ho!
What We Had
Drinks.
We started off with me enjoying a cafe con leche, while Soph had a black tea.
I had a bottle of Mahou ( which came with a frozen glass, a nice touch ) with my food while Soph had a Coke Zero.
Food.
We ordered just 3 tapas dishes from their menu; Croquetas Caseras, Boquerones En Vinegre and also Pan, tomate and alioli.

Croquetas Caseras.
These were delicious, nicely cooked, on a small bed of lettuce with a red jam to accompany them. There were 6 per serving and they were filling.
Boquerones En Vinegre.
I’ve not had these for a while, so opted to try them today, as it’s one of my favourite tapas cold dishes. What I liked here was these were served with olives and on a bed of salted crisps. Really nice and tasty tapas.

Pan, tomate and alioli.
A decent sized serving of lovely fresh bread, lightly toasted and this was served with plenty of tomato and alioli.
What We Liked
There are so many positives here. Staff are friendly, welcoming and very efficient. They are quick to take orders, your food and drinks arrive quickly.
The interior was clean and tidy, as were the toilets.
What Could Be Improved
This is another place we have visited, where we have had no complaints what so ever.
What Did It Cost
Drinks.
The 1.80€ for a cafe con leche, 2.00€ for the black tea.
The bottle of Mahou came in at 2.50€ and 2.20€ for a Coke Zero.
Tapas.
House Croquetas 10.00€ for 6 ( so roughly 1.67€ each )
Boquerones were 4.20€
Pan, tomate and alioli 3.90€

Would We Return To Cafe Velacho Guardamar
Yes we’d come back to Cafe Velacho, but it would be more out of season. parking here in Guardamar can be a real pain at times, especially when the town is overrun by tourists.
