We had lunch today at Bar El Resspiro Rojales, again after hearing good things about this hidden gem of a restaurant. The menu del dia is good value, and that is what we decided to go with on this first visit.
This is quite an interesting place to find as you weave through the back streets, going out of Rojales and up into the hills. This is mainly a residential area with the school at the top of the hill, so avoid busy times of the day unless you are walking.
What We Had at Bar El Resspiro Rojales
Drinkwise was the usual Coke for Soph. I opted for a beer, and as the guy serving us suggested a pint, I agreed that sounded a good idea.
We had a basket of bread brought out and a salad to share. The bread was amazing, super fresh, and soft. But we held back on asking for more, knowing that we still had three courses to go!
For my starters, I selected the ham croquettes, while Soph opted for the lentil stew. Mine was nice, though the lentil stew was the better option; there was some definite food envy going on there!
Quick tip here: don’t eat all your bread with your salad if you’re going with the lentil casserole!
For the main, we both went with pork; I chose the secreto while Soph went with the lomo de cerdo ( pork loin ). These were served with a side of potatoes and a small garnish. The meat was lean, tender, and moist.
For desserts, we went with bread pudding for Soph; I decided on the creme caramel, the coffee variety. I also had a cafe con leche to finish. Both were really tasty and just the right portion size.
What We Liked About Bar El Resspiro Rojales
The service was very attentive, the staff were friendly and were working hard to get everyone served and attended to as quickly as possible. The member of staff who served us had excellent English, but he did let us practise a little Spanish.
The food was very good. Combine this with the laid-back atmosphere, and this is a really nice, relaxed dining experience.
Their menu changes, so it’s good to check out their Facebook page, for the current menu del dia options.
This is a charming restaurant, traditional yet quirky in the decor.
What Could Be Improved
Nothing really springs to mind. This is definitely somewhere that we could confidently bring visiting friends and family.
How Much Did It Cost?
This was a lovely lunch experience at a very affordable price. Our bill at Bar El Resspiro Rojales came to €26.50 in total, and it was a very enjoyable meal without the need to eat anything else that day!
Would We Return To Bar El Resspiro Rojales?
Yes, absolutely. We’d either do it the traditional Spanish way and come for 2 pm onwards so the school has closed or maybe on a weekend. Due to the location, parking may be a problem. We did a couple of circuits of the side streets and were on the verge of giving up and moving on when a car was indicating to pull out, so we grabbed their parking space a street away. So, do add on a little time to find somewhere to park.
