We first went to Puntas De Calnegre back in 2016 when we lived in the Murcia region and fancied a trip out to have a bit of lunch. This was an interesting experience regarding ordering the lunch, as I explain below.
We kind of came across it by accident and loved it. Originally we were going to pop into the Port at Mazarrón but chose to go somewhere new. Calnegre is only 30 minutes or so from El Puerto de Mazarrón.
If you’re worried about all the bright red sunburnt Brits basking on the beach, then you’re safe here.
It’s not really on the tourist lists, but let me tell you more about Puntas de Calnegre, a hidden gem in Murcia,! Puntas de Calnegre is an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Murcia region of southeastern Spain. It’s known for its stunning coastlines, crystal-clear waters, and rugged mountains.
Untouched Beauty: This area is a protected natural area, meaning it hasn’t been overdeveloped. You’ll find secluded coves, hidden beaches, and dramatic cliffs offering breathtaking views.
Beach Bliss: The coastline boasts a variety of beautiful beaches, some easily accessible and others requiring a bit more effort to reach. Playa de Calnegre is a popular choice, with soft sand and calm waters, perfect for families. It’s quite, so the opposite of the beaches in the tourist hotspots of Benidorm or Salou, for example.
Hiking Heaven: For the more adventurous souls, there are numerous hiking trails that wind through the mountains, offering stunning panoramas and a chance to explore the diverse flora and fauna.

We went to this little restaurant on the beach, we were the only English there ( nothing much changes, as this is often the case nowadays too) and the waiter came out to serve us. We ordered drinks and asked for the menu del dia. Needless to say instead of it being a printed menu, it was scribbled on a tiny pad and he proceeded to rattle off at what seemed to be 100 words a minute the menu. We both picked out the words for Ensalada for our starter and Pollo ( chicken ) for the main, so we had salad to start and chicken as the main.
Puntas de Calnegre offers something for everyone, whether you’re a beach bum, a nature enthusiast, or an adrenaline seeker.

- Limited Amenities: Since the area is protected, there are limited shops, restaurants, and bars. It’s a good idea to come prepared with any essentials you might need.
- Getting There: The closest airport is in Murcia (Corvera) Airport. From there, you can rent a car or take a bus to Puntas de Calnegre.

Playa De Calnegre
It is located in the hamlet of Ramonete and is 190 meters long, one of the largest in the area along with Parazuelos. This bathing area is awarded with the blue flag and also has an award for the best eco-beaches that value environmental excellence and services.
