Not long ago opened, we went to La Famiglia Catral for lunch on Thursday, for our first visit. Several people we know went to their opening night and others have eaten there since and all seemed to enjoy the experience. At least two people told me how good the Garlic bread starter is, so that was on my list.
One thing that did disappoint was after being seated and drinks ordered, we were informed that on a lunchtime there was no pizzas available, which scuppered my plans of garlic bread and then a pizza.
We were also informed there had not been a delivery of rice, so there was no rissotto option either, which ruled out Sophs dish today. She’d really enjoyed the risotto at the Garden Bar this week, so wanted to compare the two.
What We Had
We shared the Bruschetta starter, as there was no garlic bread availabe, as the pizza ovens aren’t used at lunch time. We both ordered a pasta dish for our mains. Another nice touch was the amuse bouche that came out from the kitchen which was depp fried olive, that I’m sure was mixed with pork and veal.
While we were waiting for the starter, our wonderful server brought out a plate of crisps as nibbles to have with our drinks.

Drinks.
I had a pint of Moretti while Soph had a Coke Zero.
Starters.
The brushetta was shared between us both and it was a good sized dish.

Mains.
The Rigatoni 4 Cheese, for me while Soph had the Tortelloni prosciutto e funghi and this was very tasty, the mushrooms were really good.

Again, both dishes were large portions, nicely presented and flavoursome.

Dessert.
We were both too full for a dessert, we did however get offered a chupito, so we enjoyed a Baileys each.
What We Liked
The service throughout lunch was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and it’s always good to get service with a smile. The food was good, very filling.
Tasty vegetables, the mushrooms in Sophs main course were lovely and tasty.

What Could Be Improved
I’d wish I’d known they didn’t do pizzas at lunchtime, because that was the reason we had called there. A fixed price menu would be nice too.
What It Cost
The bill in total was 31.20€
Drinks – My pint was 4€ while Sophs Coke Zero was 2.20€.
The starter was 7.50€ and the mains were 8.50€ for mine and 9€ for Sophs.

Would We Return To La Famiglia Catral
For a pizza at some point, quite probably. Personally I’m not big into Italian food, I tend to choose either a pizza or a steak, as I find most pasta dishes too bland for my own palette.
As there are two really good pizza restaurants a very short stones throw away, it would be good to compare pizzas.
