  6. Why Gran Via Alicante is Worth a Visit

I personally don’t enjoy shopiing, but if you’re the kind of traveller who likes to mix a bit of retail therapy with your Spanish sunshine, then Gran Via Alicante might just be your new favourite stop.

Tucked away on the edge of Alicante city centre, this modern, airy shopping centre is everything you’d expect from a proper Costa Blanca retail spot—easy-going, well-equipped, and packed with shops, cafés, and restaurants to suit every taste. It’s the sort of place where you can spend a whole morning (or afternoon) wandering around without feeling rushed.

Why Gran Via Alicante Hits the Spot

The beauty of Gran Via Alicante is its simplicity. It’s got everything you need under one roof—from big-name fashion stores to cosy cafés, electronics, beauty, homeware, and even a massive Carrefour hypermarket for all your supermarket type essentials.

Fancy a bargain? Primark is here, alongside well-loved Spanish and international brands like H&M, Mango, Bershka, Pull & Bear, and Massimo Dutti. You’ll also find favourites like The Disney Store, Claire’s Accessories, and sports retailers including Foot Locker and Sprinter.

There’s no need to worry about the weather either—the entire centre is air-conditioned, making it a welcome retreat during those hot Alicante afternoons.

Something for Everyone

Dining and Coffee Breaks

If shopping leaves you feeling a bit peckish (it always does, right?), you’re in luck. The top floor of Gran Via Alicante is home to a great selection of places to refuel:

  • Foster’s Hollywood for a hearty American-style meal
  • 100 Montaditos and Lizarran for traditional tapas
  • Haagen Dazs and Bombon Boss for something sweet
  • Classic options like McDonald’s and Burger King for the kids (or let’s be honest—anyone craving fries)

Whether it’s a leisurely lunch, a quick coffee, or a cold beer after a successful shop, you’ll find it here.

Family-Friendly Fun

One of the standout features of Gran Via Alicante is its fantastic Kids Zone. This supervised play area lets children aged 3 to 12 enjoy workshops, face painting, and games, all while parents get an hour to shop in peace.

The family facilities here are brilliant too—there’s a dedicated baby room with bottle warmers, changing stations, and even a vending machine for nappies and baby wipes.

Getting There and Getting Around

Public Transport

Gran Via Alicante is well-served by local buses. The most convenient lines are:

  • Bus No. 10 and 11 H — both connect the shopping centre to Alicante city centre and surrounding areas.

Buses run regularly, check times on Omio, especially during peak shopping hours, and stops are just a short walk from the mall entrance.

Parking

If you’re driving, parking is a breeze. The centre has a large, free car park, with plenty of spaces for cars, motorcycles, and dedicated spots for those with limited mobility. You’ll rarely struggle to find a spot, even on weekends.

When’s the Best Time to Visit?

Peak Seasons

As with much of the Costa Blanca, Alicante’s high tourist season falls between June and September. During these months, Gran Via Alicante can get quite busy, especially on hot afternoons when people head indoors to escape the heat.

Quieter Times

If you prefer a more chilled vibe, weekday mornings outside of summer are wonderfully relaxed. You’ll have space to browse without the crowds, and many shops offer seasonal sales after the main tourist rush.

How accessible is Gran Via Alicante for people with limited mobility?

Very accessible—there are lifts, ramps, wide walkways, and accessible toilets throughout the centre.

Where’s the best place to take a break?

The top-floor dining area has comfy seating and plenty of food options. Or grab a coffee at Bombon Boss and relax under the air con.

Is it easy to get here without a car?

Yes! Bus routes 10 and 11 H connect Gran Via Alicante directly to the city centre and nearby neighbourhoods.

Why Gran Via Alicante is Worth a Visit

Gran Via Alicante isn’t just a shopping centre—it’s a calm, convenient little escape from the bustle of the city streets. Whether you’re browsing for beachwear, stocking up on groceries, or just cooling off with an ice cream, this place makes everything easy.

Compare this to the indoor market in Benidorm, to see how sedate shopping here is.

And the best bit? Once you’re done here, you’re only a short ride away from Alicante’s historic old town, the castle, or the beachfront—making it the perfect starting point (or ending point) for a relaxed day out in this sunny corner of Spain.

Depending on where you’re living / staying La Zenia Boulevard might be closer to get to.
