We had booked into Gong ages back and I’m so glad we made the 30+ minute drive down there in the cold on Boxing Day. This is a brilliant restaurant, if you like Thai infused food, which both Soph and I do.
Actually I should have called this post: Fabulous Food And Super Service At Gong Restaurant Spain.
One thing is their menu is read through a QR code, of you can view it online here, plus they have the set menu on paper, which is brought to the table.
What We Had
We both went for the set menu, just to keep things simple, plus there are so many nice options on this menu. We added the legendary F-Bombs onto the order too, as it’s rude not to.
Drinks.
We both had a Coke Zero and then had a jug of water, so nothing too exciting there.
Food
Salad
We both chose the Chicken Coconut and Lime Salad which was superb. Fresh, vibrant and full of flavour.

Starters
Soph had the Seafood Toast which she really liked. If you like prawn toast, this is similar but beyond just elevated. My choice was the Pork and Chive Dumplings which were amazingly good. We also had the F=Bombs, which we have on every visit, as they are that good and nowhere else does anything like them!

Mains
Fried rice and the slow cooked Beef Massaman, for me, while Soph opted for the minced chicken dry stir fry which came with steamed rice.
These are beautifully cooked dishes, mine had big pieces of crazily tender beef and the spices and vegetables combined perfectly. The minced chicken could have been dry but Gong showed their expertise in making a dish without a sauce, tender and moist.

Desserts.
Although I’m not much of a dessert fan, both the coconut tart and ice cream last night were amazing. The ice cream had a lot of coconut flavour as well as small pieces of coconut in there, it was excellent. The actual tart was so moist, perhaps the best I have ever had in Spain, this was a delight to eat.
Sophie’s choice was the Mars Bar Spring Roll, which she also thoroughly enjoyed, though it sounds as if it would be very greasy it wasn’t at all. I can’t pass judgement as she ate it all without offering me a taste, it was that good!
What We Liked
The food, the service, the ambience. The food was amazing as usual, the team last night were brilliant, they worked well as a team, everything taken in their stride. Despite being busy and full, the atmosphere was great and the restaurant was lovely and warm too.
What Could Be Improved
Open another restaurant, nearer to Quesada or Catral or Benijofar, this would then save us the 30+ minute drive, would be my preference.
What It Cost
Our Christmas Boxing Day meal out came to 70,70€ in total.

This was broken down as follows:
The set menu was 23.50€ and then the added F=Bombs being 8€
Both our desserts came with a small supplement, Sophs Mars Bar Spring Roll 3€ while my Coconut Tart was an extra 5€.
Cokes were 2,60€ and the jug of water 2,50€.
Would We Return To Gong Restaurant Spain
This is actually ” Soph check our diaries to find out when we are returning ” not would we return. The food here is always amazing, we have never in all our visits left and commented on any dish not being great.
How To Find Gong.
For us, this is a 30 minute or so drive, depending on the traffic and route we take. The easiest way is hop onto the AP7, drive down there, but pay the two tolls in each direction.
Their address is C.C. Flamenca Beach 24, directions via Google are easy to follow.
The N332 is another option, but again it depends on time and traffic. We actually came back this way and at 10.30, it was quiet.
Book in advance though, even last night people were turning up as walk ins, only to be turned away.
